Total Hip Replacement: Crystal’s Story
My name is Crystal Cox, and I am 49. In March of 2013, I fell on the ice and did a soccer twist, and I tore my cartilage in my right hip. Gradually, the pain accelerated to the point that grocery shopping was a pain. I have teenagers and I like to spend time with them, of course, and I didn’t feel like I could do that with their activities because my pain was night, day—it didn’t matter when; it was constant, and it was getting worse and worse and worse.
My first visit with Dr. Scott Wingerter was outstanding. He listened to everything I had to say about what happened to me and my physical injuries. He looked at my X-rays and CT scans and said, “What you need is a total hip replacement.” He went through the whole process and explained why I needed that, what the surgery was going to be like and what recovery was going to be like. He was very patient with me because I had a lot of questions.
It’s been three months since I’ve had the surgery, and my life is completely different. I am able to walk, go up stairs, come down stairs, go shopping with my daughter, and I have no pain—key ingredient: no pain. It was the best decision I ever made in my life, and I would do it all over again immediately.
Dr. Wingerter totally changed my life with this hip surgery. I have a totally different future ahead of me. I thank him personally, and I know my family does, too.
