Meet Katie Macdonald, APRN
My name is Katie Macdonald. I work alongside Dr. Timothy Badwey and Dr. James Halloran as a nurse practitioner (APRN). We treat foot and ankle conditions, as well as sports-related injuries.
Working alongside Dr. Badwey and Dr. Halloran, part of my role is to go in and interview patients, gather their histories, learn about their medical conditions, and learn why they’re here and what their complaint is. I also will examine them while I’m in there.
Additionally, I have days where I have my own clinics to see patients. This can include new patients and re-checks, as well as post-operative appointments. Common conditions I treat my clinic include foot and ankle fractures, arthritic conditions, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, meniscus tears, ACL injuries – in general, any condition affecting the foot, ankle or knee.
In orthopedics, many times the patients we see are having a great deal of pain, and any wait to be seen is too long. Having me as part of the team allows them greater access to care. Some of these patients ultimately will require surgery. My job is to get the ball rolling and order any additional tests, such as an MRI or a CT scan, that will provide all the pieces to the puzzle once the physician does have face-to-face interaction with the patient.
My philosophy of care is to treat the whole person, not only taking into consideration their orthopedic condition, but also take into consideration all their medical conditions, as well as their goals and expectations.
