Meet Dr. Thomas L. Shriwise, Othopedic Surgeon
My name is Thomas Shriwise, and I’ve been practicing orthopedic surgery for about 27 years. I’ve been with Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics since 2003.
I grew up on a farm, and we had a number of injuries within our own family, including my older brother who had a number of orthopedic procedures. Also, I had my own sports injuries. I injured my knee playing football in college, and I also had an injury to my other knee from snow skiing, so I had my own orthopedic injuries. I still have an ACL-deficient knee to this day. Following that, I went to medical school, went through all of the surgical subspecialties, and I liked orthopedics the best.
My philosophy of care is patients first and keeping things cost effective. As we know, medicine is running out of bounds with expense, so I think it’s important to keep that under control.
My primary goal is to keep people active and involved in healthy lifestyles, which usually involves extra physical activity. I think it is very important for everybody’s mental and emotional well-being as well as physical health.
The most rewarding part is helping people get better – usually that’s with orthopedic surgery, physical therapy modalities or home exercise programs – but probably the most gratifying thing for me is to operate on somebody and watch them do much better.
