Certified Physician Assistants (PA-Cs) and Nurse Practitioners (APRNs)
Before your visit with a physician, one of our certified physician assistants may perform your initial examination. Our PAs and APRNs are specially trained in orthopedic injuries, and they work alongside our board-certified physicians to:
- Document your medical history
- Perform physical examinations
- Prescribe medications
- Order laboratory tests
- Provide treatment
Our physician assistants and nurse practitioners are accredited by their respective national certifying organizations and licensed by their respective state boards in Kansas and Missouri. Meet the team:
|Eric S. Carlson, PA-C, joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics in July of 2004. Eric earned bachelor’s degrees in physician assistant and biology, with a minor in Spanish, from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Prior to joining Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics, Eric worked as a PA-C at Primary Medical Care, P.A., in Olathe, Kansas.
|Karen Cason, PA-C, joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics in May 2013. She earned a physician assistant master’s degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, in 2012. She made the Dean’s List for academic achievement while enrolled in the program. Karen also earned a bachelor’s degree in health, sports, and exercise science from the University of Kansas in 2009. She has worked in the Kansas City area as a technician in optometry and physical therapy and volunteered as a clinical assistant at an indigent care clinic in Galveston, Texas.
|Seamus G. Cotter-Brown, PA-C, joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics in September of 2001. He has a physician assistant master’s degree from Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois. Seamus completed his bachelor’s degree in biology and zoology at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics with three years of experience as an Orthopaedic PA at Steindler Orthopaedic Clinic in Iowa City, Iowa.
|Kenneth D. Kinnan, PA-C, joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics in November of 2007. Ken earned a physician assistant master’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University (now known as Missouri State University) in Springfield, Missouri. He also received a bachelor’s in athletic training from Park University in Parkville, Missouri. He served more than 10 years in the United States Navy from 1986 through 1997. Ken brings physician assistant experience from Johnson County Spine and Lawrence Orthopedic Surgery, P.A.
|Meghan Koch, APRN, joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics in January 2012. She earned a master’s in nursing, family nurse practitioner, from the University of Kansas School of Nursing in 2009. She worked as a nurse practitioner in urgent care, emergency medicine, and family practice in the KC area prior to joining Dickson-Diveley. She earned a bachelor’s in nursing from Baker University in 2005 and spent four years as an RN, including two years at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute, before returning to school for her master’s degree.
|Katie Macdonald, APRN, joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics in October 2016. She earned her master’s degree in nursing from Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University. Previously, she worked as a medical-surgical nurse, operating room nurse and perioperative coordinator at Saint Luke’s Hospital. She was also selected as the Saint Luke’s Hospital employee of the month in March 2014.
|Kylie Yuhas, PA-C, joined Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics in August 2017. She earned a physician assistant master’s degree from Touro University in Henderson, Nevada, in 2015. She also earned a bachelor’s of science degree in Psychology from University of California, Davis in 2011 while playing collegiate volleyball. She has worked in orthopedics since graduating PA school, with experience in fracture care and total joint replacement.
University Physician Associate
|Kathy Ervie, MPAS, PA-C, has a bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies. She is a member of the faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, serving as Founding Program Director of the Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant program since 2012. Her clinical specialty is orthopedic surgery.
