History of the Foundation
Founded in 1924 by Doctors Frank D. Dickson and Rex L. Diveley, the Dickson-Diveley
Orthopaedic Clinic brought the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery to Kansas
City. Seventy years later, the physicians of the Dickson-Diveley Clinic
continue to deliver state-of-the-art specialty care to its patients. Our
mission is to provide competent, compassionate, state-of-the-art orthopaedic
care to all patients, without regard to their race, religion ethnic origin
or ability to pay, as well as advance the science of orthopaedic surgery
through teaching and research.
Doctors Dickson and Diveley were pioneers in medical education in Kansas
City. They founded the Dickson-Diveley orthopaedic training program which
continues to this day as the University of Missouri-Kansas City Orthopaedic
Surgery Residency Program. The physicians of the Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedic
Clinic are all teachers of the UMKC Dickson-Diveley orthopaedic surgery
residents.
Saint Luke's Hospital, Truman Medical Center, and Children's Mercy Hospital
are the participating institutions in the UMKC orthopaedic surgery training
program. All the physicians hold Faculty appointments at the UMKC School
of Medicine and are on the staffs of all three teaching hospitals.
The Dickson-Diveley Education and Research Foundation was founded to
help support and foster educational and research programs at Saint Luke's
Hospital by the residents and staff of the Dickson-Diveley Clinic.
Grants from the Dickson-Diveley Education and Research Foundation go
to support educational and research programs that would not exist if not
for this financial support. These programs will eventually lead to improved
care of the orthopaedic patient.
Foundation funds are not used for daily operations of the clinic.
